Abstract:

This study aims to explore the approach taken by Jordanian online newspapers in reporting on the Russian-Ukrainian war. The study also seeks to identify the subjects and frames used in this context. The study applied a content analysis method on a sample of press materials published in the Jordanian online newspapers (Alrai, Addustour, and Alghad). The study adopted a weekly systematic sampling approach for the analysis, selecting one day from each week. This period extended from the start of the war on (Feb 24th 2022) until (Dec 31st 2022). In total, (42) days were analyzed, encompassing (974) journalistic articles within the scope of the study. The study found that the predominant subject in the newspaper's treatment of the Russian-Ukrainian war was the "Russian Bombing of Ukraine". The study revealed that the "Military Frame" was the most frequently employed in their war coverage. Moreover, the use of "News Story Style" was identified as the main journalistic format utilized in the coverage. The majority of journalistic pieces within the scope of the study exhibited a neutral stance, and the use of "Logos Appeals" prevailed in their war coverage. The newspapers relied mainly on "Foreign News Agencies" for their sources, and Russia and Ukraine were recognized as the primary active forces in the war.
