Abstract:
The present study aims at investigating the effectiveness of an Islamic family counselling programme based on emotional intelligence skills in improving marital compatibility in a sample of couples in Irbid governorate. In order to achieve the objective of this study, a descriptive and semi-experimental approach was used to construct the matchmaking measure. An Islamic family counselling programme was also designed based on emotional intelligence skills. It included a range of group guidance techniques and some guidance skills that would help to achieve the study objectives. The two tools were applied to the sample study of 32 husbands and wives who were registered with the Irbid Community Services Centre, which is part of the Islamic Centre for Charitable Services. Those couples wished to improve their marital harmony, and the participation was compulsory for both spouses. The main findings of the study indicated an improvement in the post-measurement results among the study sample in favor of the experimental group. Participants retained the counseling gains, as shown by the follow-up test. In light of these results, the study recommends adopting the current program and applying it to other communities and under different variables.
