Household Transportation Expenditure in Jordan: An Analytical Study
Nour Munir Elias Elwer Nahil Ismail Saqfalhait
Abstract
This study analyzes the extent of differences among the percentages of household expenditure on transportation among governorates in Jordan. It is based on the statistical surveys conducted on household expenditures by the Department of Statistics in Jordan for six irregular years during the period 2002 to 2017. The results indicate that households in Amman have the highest amounts of expenditures on transportation, but they are not the highest in proportions compared to the total expenditures.
The model was estimated using the generalized least squares technique (GLS) with panel data for the study period. GLS is fully efficient and yields consistent estimates of the standard errors since it eliminates serial correlation and inconsistency.
Based on the regression analysis results, it is evident that the percentage of transportation expenditure from total spending is significantly less in Amman than other governorates, except for Aqaba
