The study aims at measuring the effectiveness of employing augmented reality in teaching National and Civic Education in the development of digital citizenship and metacognitive skills among tenth grade female students. The study adopts the semi-experimental method, and consists of (65) female tenth graders from Al-Hassad Al-Tarbawi Schools in the Directorate of Education of Amman in the second semester of the school year 2019/2018. The study consists of two groups assigned randomely: an experimental group consisting of 35 students who studied using the augmented reality technology, and a control group consisting of 30 students who studied using the conventional method.
To achieve the objectives of the study, two scales were developed; one for digital citizenship and the other for metacognitive skills. The results of the study show statistically significant differences between the total average of the experimental group on both scales and in favour of the experiemental group.
