Abstract:

This study aims to investigate the role of the media in the development of cultural and intellectual awareness from the viewpoint of the students at UNRWA's Higher Education Faculties at Jordan. The researchers used the descriptive survey method using a questionnaire developed for the purposes of collecting the study data. It included (65) items divided into two domains: the role-played by the media, programs and subjects presented therein, their psychometric properties were verified and then applied to a random sample consisting of (340) students from the study community to collect the data. The results of the study showed that the students of the intended faculties believe that the role played by the media in the development of cultural and intellectual awareness is mediocre. The programs and topics presented are of medium importance. The results also showed statistically significant differences in the responses of the sample members according to the faculty, for the benefit of Amman Training College, and the absence of differences in their responses depending on the variables of the gender of the student and the level of education of his mother and his father.
