Abstract:
The current study (Unanimous Allegation in Argumentative Discourse of Abu Hayyan Al Andalusi)
originated from the need to shed light on his employment of unanimity in his discourse. The techniques he used in
his discourse are investigated along with the foundations he relied on. The value of its engagement in his discourse
is also investigated using an analytical tool to achieve that.
The study concludes that the most obvious techniques used are: reliance on contradicting viewpoints, syntactic
structure, and insults. The latter reveals that verbal abuse negatively impacted the discourse. The relied upon
argument seemed weak in front of unanimity as having one citation of a contradiction in one issue does not amount
to become evidence in support of lack of unanimity. Such an opinion might be inferior to unanimity or an
untrustworthy opinion that does not stand the rigors of the majority's opinion and hence insignificant, not to
mention that reliance on odd and rare opinion does not merit unanimous support.
