Abstract:
The study aims at maintaining a critical study for one of the Jordanian significant novels that is (A House behind The Borders) for the Jordanian novelist (Issa Al naouri). Despite the fact that the novel was published in 1959, Al Naouri died criticizing the literature critics' opinions towards this novel as he claimed that they didn't study the novel thoroughly, but they examined it briefly; that the critics stressed on the disadvantages of the novel and ignored the advantages in it. He argued that, had the critic studied the novel solely, he would have found that the novel is addressing some areas never been addressed before such as trying to suggest a triad (Generations), use the narrative symbolism. It must be noted here that none of the critics has attempted to address these issues after the publication of this novel, the issues that Al Naouri has addressed and examined. They did not attempt to verify the truths presented in this novel. As a result, there was a contradiction between the view of Naouri and his critics, and this contradction is still present till now. This motivated the researcher to conduct this study and to examine this novel with a deeper view to verify the truths mentioned in the context of the novel. This needed a comprehensive examination of the elements of novel such as the plot, the setting, characters, language used, rhythm, genre and dialogue. The study also addressed Al Naouri's attempt to write the Triad (Generations) or his use of symbolism in the novel. The researcher examined these two important aspects. The study concluded with clarifying one of the ignored issues, that is, there are some similarities between Al Naouri's novel and one of the well-known novels written by Ghassan Kanafani. For this reason, the researcher conducted a critical comparison between the two novels and then presented the most important results in the conclusion of the study.
