Abstract:
The study is about the reality of school libraries in the Directorate of Education District of Rusaifa according to the librarians' points of view of librarians about the appropriate site, size and furnishings, the purposes of use computers, the extent of satisfaction with the adequacy of existing information sources and its role in promoting the school curriculum, services and activities provided by libraries, as well as the frequency of students' using the libraries.
Study community consisted of 49 school librarians of which 41 (or 83.7%) responded. The data were collected via a questionnaire during the study year 2010/2011.
The study revealed that the location of libraries and its area are appropriate for the number of users, the libraries that have computers use it for the search in computerized catalogue but they don't use it for the main libraries' purposes such as research and reference service, all libraries lack the provision of current awareness to library services, the most awareness activities used by school media, and the degree of frequency students to school libraries ranging between middle-class and the few.
It also revealed that there are significant differences at the level of (a ≤ 0.05 ) between respondents' points of view attributed to dependant variables due specialization with regard to appropriate of furniture libraries for the types of users, and the adequacy of library collection for the number of users, and the frequency of students' libraries using for non-specialists in library and information science.
The study made some recommendations related to its findings, such as the need for students to be aware of the importance of the library in developing their cultural, academic, social levels, and promotes reading habit.
