Abstract:
The study aims to explore the effectiveness of a training program based on the Montessori approach in developing Arabic language skills among students with specific learning disabilities. To achieve this objective, the researchers adopted a quasi-experimental design with a single group, as it suited the purposes of the research. The study was applied to a purposive sample consisting of students with specific learning disabilities at Wadi Sultan Mixed Basic School, totaling 16 students—8 males and 8 females—from the lower basic grades (second, third, and fourth) during the academic year 2022/2023. To collect the required data, the researchers developed the study tools, which included: the educational kit for measuring basic Arabic language skills, approved by the Department of Guidance and Special Education at the Ministry of Education; the pre- and post-assessment of basic Arabic language skills based on the educational kit; and the design of a training program based on the Montessori approach. The validity of the tools was confirmed through expert review, and their reliability was verified using Cronbach's Alpha coefficient. For statistical analysis, the researchers used the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) to calculate means, standard deviations, and the T-test. The results showed that the applied program was effective in developing Arabic language skills among students with learning disabilities. Statistically significant differences were found at the significance level (α ≤ 0.05) between the means of the pre- and post-assessments in favor of the post-assessment. However, no statistically significant differences were found based on gender. In light of these results, the researchers provided several recommendations that contribute to developing various skills among students with specific learning disabilities, promoting their integration with their typically developing peers, and enhancing their ability to adapt to society.
