Abstract:

This study aims at identifying the concept of foreign direct investment and its forms, as well as measuring the impact of foreign direct investment on the economic development in Jordan and the extent of its contribution to the stimulation and development of the national economy.

The study methodology contains the (study importance, study problem, study objectives, and the hypotheses), followed by econometrics analytical approach through the data related to the Jordanian GDP analysis and the size of foreign direct investments for the period (1996-2008). The results of the study findings: There exist a statistically significant impact of the foreign direct investment on economic development in Jordan

The study recommends focusing on the continued application of the legislation to ensure the deepening of the role of foreign direct investment in the activation of the performance of the Jordanian economy through tax exemptions rewarding, and directing these investments towards the development of all economic sectors, and attract technology and technical knowledge appropriate to the reality of Jordan's economic and reconsider institutional frameworks related to investment promotion through coordination between these institutions and the expansion of its activities at the international level.
