Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of using virtual reality technology on developing reading skills among students with learning disabilities who suffer from dyslexia. Twenty students with learning disabilities who were diagnosed with reading difficulties from the second grade level at Abu Alia Elementary School II affiliated to Marka District participated in the study. The virtual reality activities were designed with (Unity) software and loaded on the Oculus Meta Quest 2 virtual reality headset. The results of the study demonstrated the effectiveness of virtual reality technology in improving the students' results on reading skills test and developing their skills in distinguishing letters and words, word analysis and phrases composition. It was also noted that the students' motivation to learn to read increased and their sense of pleasure during the learning process. Accordingly, the study recommends giving more attention for people with special needs and learning difficulties and conducting more research that studies the impact of modern technologies (especially virtual reality) in helping them develop their cognitive and performance skills as the reading skills, and overcome their weaknesses to facilitate their integration into society.
