The Role of News Programs in Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya in Developing Political Awareness

Abstract
The study aims at identifying the role of news programs in Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya in developing political awareness. The study sample consisted of (150) students from the Faculty of Press at Yarmouk University. The researcher used descriptive analytical method and reached a set of results:
1- The arithmetical means of the members' responses to Al-Jazeera's news program items in developing political awareness was high (3.76).
2- The arithmetical means of the members' responses to Al Arabiya's news program items in developing political awareness was high (3.63).
3- Al-Jazeera TV news programs ranked ahead of Al-Arabiya news programs according to the value of the arithmetic average.
4- There were no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.05) between the means of responses of students in the Faculty of Press at Yarmouk University, in relation to the role of news programs in Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya in developing political awareness, attributed to gender variable.
5- There were statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.05) between the average responses of students in the Faculty of Press at Yarmouk University in relation to the role of news programs in Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya in developing political awareness due to the variable of the school year.
