The effect of using the self-questioning strategy on reading comprehension, motivation towards reading, and self – concept among eighth grade female students in Palestine

Abstract:
The study aims at identifying the impact of self-questioning strategy on reading comprehension, motivation towards reading, and self – concept among eighth grade female students in Palestine. The researcher uses the experimental method, and selected a random sample of 90 students from the study population totaling (807) students. The researcher designs the following tools: List of Reading Comprehension Skills, Reading Comprehension Test, the scale of motivation towards reading, and the measure of self-concept

The study results indicate the presence of statistically significant differences at (α = 0.01) between the mean scores of the  students in the control group  and the mean scores of their peers in the experimental group in the post application of Reading Comprehension test  in favor of the experimental group in addition to the the existence of differences in the total score of the scale of motivation towards reading, and the total score of the measure of self-concept  in favor of the experimental group .

The researcher recommends the Arabic language teachers to employ  the self-questioning strategy when teaching reading and other skills of the Arabic language.
