Abstract:
The study aims to evaluate the course "Oman: Civilization and Humanity" from the perspective of students at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences - Muscat, using a descriptive and analytical approach. To collect data, a questionnaire consisting of 46 items was developed, divided into three sections, and analyzed using the statistical program (SPSS). The study sample included 250 students from the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Muscat. The study reached several important findings, the most significant of which was that the key topic representing a substantial knowledge base for the sample was the role of geographical nature in the emergence of civilizations. Conversely, the topic of building legislative institutions in Oman (Shura and State Councils) did not hold significant importance for the students due to their pre-existing knowledge. The introduction of these institutions, from their inception to their development and operational mechanisms, was not solely addressed in the course "Oman: Civilization and Humanity," but was also covered by Omani media and educational institutions. The study recommended several actions, including utilizing the results to reframe the content of topics that were not significant to the students, under the supervision of a specialized committee of experienced history and civilization professors. Additionally, it suggested leveraging topics that were highly valued by students by linking them to noble values and principles such as citizenship and pride in identity.
