The Arab League: The Need for Reform and Development (2010-2020)
Abstract:
The paper seeks to explore the necessity of reform in the functioning of the Arab League, and how events in the Arab region impact the organization's image and the calls for reform. Additionally, it examines the Arab League's ability to address these events effectively. The paper investigates the reasons behind the necessary changes and their characteristics, drawing insights from top officials (Secretary Generals) in the Arab League and experts in its operations. It also considers the perspectives of four Jordanian representatives to the Arab League, based on their practical experiences, on the type of reform or enhancement needed in the organization's structure or charter. The research found that there is an agreement that the Arab League is facing a performance crisis, not an existential one. There is a consensus that Arabs require unity through multilateral efforts, making the Arab League's survival imperative. The focus should be on improvement, not elimination of the organization.
